Free Time Activities & Networks 


The student campus is located in Stams, Tyrol which is approximately 30 minutes from Innsbruck and very well connected with public transportation. Innsbruck is a vibrant university city surrounded by the Alps and is famous for its unique location in the Alps. There are many options for sports, nature, culture and social activities in Innsbruck. 

Nature and Sports: The surroundings of Stams and Innsbruck offer many opportunities for nature experiences and sports. There are many populare outdoors areas close by. Popular activities include: 

  • hiking
  • skiing and snowboarding
  • mountain biking
  • climbing
  • swimming in nearby lakes


University Sports (USI): The University Sports Institute (USI) offers a wide range of affordable sports courses for students throughout the semester. Examples include:

  • team sports 
  • fitness and yoga
  • skiing and snowboarding
  • climbing

The Erasmus Student Network Innsbruck (ESN) organizes many activities for international students:

The Catholic University Youth (Katholische Hochschuljugend) regularly organizes activities for students such as: 

  • dance classes
  • creative workshops
  • karaoke nights
  • board game evenings
  • seasonal events (e.g. Advent wreath making)

Freizeitticket Tirol

For students who enjoy outdoor activities, the Freizeitticket Tirol is a popular option. This annual leisure pass gives access to numerous ski resorts, mountain lifts, swimming pools, ice rinks and museums across Tyrol throughout the year. More information: https://www.freizeitticket.at/ 

Accomodation and Housing

Finding accommodation in Innsbruck and the surrounding area can take some time, so we recommend starting your search as early as possible. 
Students of KPH Edith Stein often live either in Innsbruck or in Stams and nearby villages (e.g. Telfs, Rietz, Silz). If you live in Innsbruck, you can easily commute to Stams by train or bus.

Private Rooms and Apartments

There are several private landlords in Stams and the surrounding area who rent rooms, shared apartments (WG), or small studios. Options include:

  • Rooms in shared apartments (WG)
  • Small studios or “Garçonnière”
  • Fully furnished apartments
  • Student rooms close to the campus

Some accommodations are located within walking distance of the KPH campus in Stams, while others are reachable within a short bus or train ride.

Student Dormitories
Another option is living in a student residence in Innsbruck. This allows you to live in a student community and easily meet other international students.

Important Tip
The housing market in Innsbruck can be competitive. We recommend:

  • start searching 3-4 months before arrival
  • contact multiple landlords
  • Consider accommodation outside Innsbruck (Stams, Telfs, Rietz) – regular connections from Innsbruck to Stams, approx. 30 minutes.

Public Transport 

If you commute to the campus or explore your sourroundings in your free time you most likely use public transport. There is a very good public transport system with special fares for students.

Semester Ticket
We recommend purchasing a public transport semester ticket for students. This ticket allows you to travel across Innsbruck and Tyrol. More information: https://www.vvt.at/tickets/schule-lehre--studium 

Train Connection
The train connection between Innsbruck and Stams is frequent and reliable. Travel time: approximately 30 minutes
